Tell me ladies, is there anything more annoying than putting on your perfect shade of lipstick, only to realize that it’s wiped off an hour later? Grumble no more – we have some great tips for applying your lip color so it lasts all day, using a few products from Paul and Joe Beaute and Jemma Kidd Makeup School.
First, here are few general tips to ensure your lip color will last longer, no matter what:
- Exfoliate your lips to make sure they are smooth and soft.
- Keep your lips well moisturized with a product like the Moisture Lip Treatment from Paul and Joe Beaute or the Ultimate Lip Care Protect and Shimmer from Jemma Kidd Makeup School.
- Try not to lick or chew on your lips. Every time you do, you take off some of your lip color.
STEP 1: Use a lip primer.
This helps prepare your lip surface and allows the lipstick to adhere better. Jemma Kidd Makeup School makes a fantastic primer called Lip Perfector that you can also use to perfect the shape of your lips.
STEP 2: Line your lips.
Use a liner shade that closely matches your lipstick color, like one of the Lip Pencil Duo shades from Paul and Joe Beaute. Line the edges of your lips to prevent your lipstick from “wandering” or feathering off your lips, then fill in your lips with the liner to provide a base for the lip color. The Shape and Shade Liner/Lip Fill from Jemma Kidd Makeup School works well for this task.
STEP 3: Brush on long-lasting lip color.
Use a lip brush, like the Portable Lip Brush from Paul and Joe Beaute, to apply a thin layer of lip color. You’ll get an added bonus from using a long-lasting lip color such as the Hi-Shine Hydrating Glosstick from Jemma Kidd Makeup School. For a two-in-one, use Lip Gloss G by Paul and Joe Beaute, which is a long-lasting gloss that comes with an application brush.
STEP 4: Blot and set.
Finally, use a thin tissue to blot your lips and remove any excess lip color. Then apply a second layer of your lip color. If you are wearing a matte color, not gloss, you can set the lipstick with a thin layer of loose foundation powder or baby powder. This helps dry the lipstick and set it for the entire day or night.
