Engrish?
January 20th, 2012 . by adminThe term “Engrish” is used to denote unusual English forms used by some Asian native speakers. It originates from the Japanese tendency to substitute the phonemes “L” and “R” since there is no “L” phoneme in the Japanese language. We can often come across Engrish in Japanese songs, TV-shows and advertisements, because such phrases seem amusing to those who are proficient in English.
You can also find instances of Engrish due to poor Japanese Translation in many early video games produced in Japan. One of the most popular examples is the opening scene of the 1991 version of the video game Zero Wing: “All your base are belong to us”.
